Trauma-Informed Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy
Pastoral Care Commitment
To be and always be
To be in the ‘here and now.’
To listen in a healing way
To commune first before engaging in analysis and intervention
To honor one’s sacred time and space
To value the birthing of one’s story
To respect one’s personhood, including our own
To be enough and be empowered by our vulnerabilities
To be the Healing touch of a Wounded Healer
the Warmth of an Intimate Stranger
the Truth of Wise Fool
To be a Companion, Other times as a Midwife
A Gardener, An Agent of Hope
Or someone who is simply being there for them
Brief History
CPE Program
CPE is professional theological education for those in ministry—clergy, seminary students, and laypeople—focused on developing pastoral care skills through hands-on experience. Trainees engage deeply with people in crisis while receiving supervision, feedback, and theological reflection. Originating from Dr. Richard Cabot and expanded by Rev. Anton Boisen, CPE uses the “living human document” approach to integrate theology, psychology, and behavioral sciences. Through case studies, group work, and supervision, CPE helps participants grow in self-awareness, spiritual insight, and relational effectiveness in caregiving.
Seven Dimensions of CCC CPE
