When God Stays Close to the Cracks

Not all pain is loud. Some of it is quiet and internal. A disappointment you do not talk about. A loss that still lingers. A heaviness you carry while still functioning on the outside. Brokenheartedness does not always collapse visibly. Sometimes it simply settles deep within.

Psalm 34:18 speaks directly into that hidden space: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Not close to the composed. Not close to the impressive. Close to the brokenhearted.

God does not move away from fractures. He draws near to them. What feels like weakness to us becomes an invitation for His presence. When your spirit feels crushed, you are not spiritually disqualified. You are seen.

There is a quiet comfort in knowing that you do not have to hold yourself together for God to stay. He remains near in the cracks, steady and attentive. You may not feel strong, but you are not alone.

Prayer
God, when my heart feels heavy or quietly broken, help me trust that You are near. Stay close to the places that ache and remind me that I am not abandoned. Amen.
